Releasing product on communities

We’re trying something new on our SQL Server community at Quest.  One of our more successful products, Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise, has a new reporting package that I mentioned in a previous post – which we will be releasing exclusively on our community.  This is the first time that we’ve tried something like this and I’m not sure, after some research, that this is an exercise that I’ve seen another of our competitors try.  This reporting pack is important to our customers because it GREATLY increases the number of reports that are currently available (we release on the 17th) and also helps promote a much more flexible and customizable report format than we’ve got today.  These new reports were initiated by feedback on our community and we’ll be making all new reports (both created internally and by users) on the community.  It’s going to be interesting to see how this is received by our customers in general, but the channels we’ve opened up for communicating and collaborating on the use of and improvements to these reports are something that is unique *today* for our market.  Personally, I’m excited, but we’ll see how it goes as we release and see the activity around this initiative.  We’ll post updates as we move on.
